Visual Literacy

In my seventh period class, Mrs. Sanderl assigned us an interesting project. We were assigned to a Visual Literacy project. It was based on Isaac Salazar's personal talent of book folding. Visual Literacy is the ability to create something visually beautiful and/or creative using literacy. Our project shows this through folding our books to show a beautiful word or sign.

My book was "Why". I chose "Why" because it symbolizes my questioning of things taken for granted, and not believing the lies or truths alike that are told to me, but finding out what things are for myself. My font was an old English font, and the purpose of this was to provide a Sherlock Holmes-like feel to my Visual Literacy. I folded approximately 200 pages.

It turned out pretty well, but I could've done better on some of the letters, it isn't perfectly clean. I would change how I folded, making it precise. If I did this again, I would do a smile, because I want everyone to be happy and content.

Proactive or Procrastination?

Be honest, are you proactive or a procrastinator? Why or why not?
I consider myself a heavy procrastinator. I tend to do things last minute, or rush my work. I often get bored during work and just walk away from it, and do something else. Homework and classwork alike, I tend to do things to distract myself from them, and then end up having to play catch up.

How does your level of productivity relate to your amount of free time?
I'm not very productive unless there's some amount of free time to look forward to. Sometimes the opposite is true, but typically I will work very slowly, as if accepting defeat, if there's no free time. If there's no free time, sometimes I also rush and don't do very well, just to get it done.

What would you change about your work habits & how would you do it?
I would make myself a much harder paperwork worker, and I would do this through self-discipline, determination, and raw hard work. Nothing else really seems like it would help, so self-teaching seems like the best way. I would consider myself well-disciplined and composed when it comes to physical things, but when it comes to paperwork, especially concerning school, I feel like I flunk. I would love to be more proactive simply by trying.

My Visual Poem

My Visual Poem is about Rock music, and a metaphorical blues musician in a depression, and his music that's the only thing keeping him content. My visuals made an impact by showing emotion, instead of just providing a general idea. It kinda has some relevance to everyday life, and a fair amount of people can relate to it. I liked it a lot and I made it for its expression of music, which is something I am passionate about. My special effects provide a small layer of comedy, but for the most part, it was a serious and expressive piece of work, and the effects were supposed to make you feel how the musician felt. I would say I'm satisfied with my result, it turned out very well, but I could improve the B-Roll and I think I will work harder next time.

HikiNo Behind The Scenes

My project consists of Keegan, Mikela, Ana, and I, and our project is on GMO and pesticide use on Kauai specifically. So far we're doing okay, several bumps along the way but we're managing fairly well.

When the camera isn't rolling, you lose everything you thought you had, and you have to restart whatever you were doing, which is very bad.

To help my team, I can try harder and attempt to get more and better B-Roll.

Lessons Learned

The most interesting part of the project in my opinion is just how big it is. GMOs and pesticides aren't just something being introduced in Kauai, but being debated all over the world.

I would say our biggest roadblock was probably not having enough interviews, but we handled that well.

Finally, I would say the most valuable part of the filmmaking process is obtaining interviews with good information, audio, lighting, composition, and positioning.

The Experiment

On this assignment we were supposed to make something using Photoshop. The reason we did this assignment was to allow us students an OPPURTERNERTER to use Photoshop and experiment.
I thought the assignment was pretty great because we didn't have to be micromanaged because it was a plan with our own devising, but I thought it was reallyupsetting because I have no experience with Photoshop and I didn't really do anything because I spent my time trying to figure out what button does what, and (yes) fooling around a little (at least I'm honest, right?).

Back To School

What's up Blogger, I'm back in school (UNGHHHHHH), and I've had stuff (quite a bit of it) going on with me lately, but for now we'll stick to school (UNGH again). My best moment so far was probably the interviewing moment in Mr. Sanderl's class. I was applying for the Director position in Morning Club with Keegan as my competition. I wasn't entirely confident I would get the job (Keegan is a pretty great person and she's nice, and she has experience, whereas...I...don't, and am not), but I did my best during the interview. It was rather interesting, my palms were sweaty (knees weak arms were heavy), and every question was kinda nerveracking, but I'm probably exaggerating. It seemed to me as if he (Mr. Sanderl) would pick Keegan, but after the interview he said we would both be directors, and balance out each others issues for perfection in our roles, she's the Yin to my Yang I guess.

My biggest challenge lately was probably holding my tongue when people in school say stupid things to me, because most of the time the comments are insults easily picked apart, but there is quite an abundance of hatred toward me. I think if I want to be successful this year, I'm going to have to continue holding my tongue and ignoring insults, other than that I'm pretty much perfect (ONLY A LITTLE BIT OF NARCISSISM *sarcasm*).
